Corner Bistro

"One of the fundamental tenets of the Monthly Burger Club is the relentless pursuit of truth, in all of its greasy-fingered, bacon-and-cheese-topped glory. When God created the Earth 4,000 years ago, Jesus told the dinosaurs: "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." And today, truly I say unto you, we have been set free. The objective truth has come to light, and all pretense and illusion have been swept aside: Corner Bistro - long heralded as one of the great New York burgers - is actually just kind of OK. Sam (who cast all of his venue votes for Corner Bistro just so it would make the list) and Aaron (who has legitimately eaten 3 Bistro Burgers in one sitting) might vehemently argue otherwise, but the numbers have spoken, and they have spoken loudly. Note that this is by no means a bad burger, it's just not legendary. The only real standout was the value, which - at $9 for a hefty bacon-cheeseburger and $2.75 for fries - is somewhat undeniable. The rest was sort of middle of the road though, and even the "classic NYC" ambiance failed to charm many, as the sticky booths and 'tude-packin' waiters outweighed the old-world atmosphere. The two who got the non-bacon cheeseburger were particularly underwhelmed, and nobody was particularly blown away by the fries. Perhaps it's a result of the explosion of burger-related creativity in recent times, or perhaps it's a case of a past-its-prime legend resting on its laurels, but whatever the case the king has been taken down a peg or two. Corner Bistro now supplants Whitman's with the all-time lowest overall score of a 6.6. Sadly, the Bistro wasn't the only thing taken down a peg - after an all-time zenith 6.4 average rating of me as a person, I've sadly slumped back to a 4.6...gonna regroup and see if I can't get that back to the northern side of 5 for next time...sigh "
