The Meaty Details

Our next session will be on Saturday, March 21st at 3PM at Black Iron Burger in the East Village. This is a stalwart little gem, serving up unpretentious patties with old-school flare in a charmingly rustic little space...and we are going to run through it like a herd of Tasmanian devils... I’ve alerted them to our presence, and they’re half-excited, half-terrified - which is exactly how we want them. So let’s gather in force, judge them and their meat like a grass-fed Zeus Almighty, and then we can roam the East Village in search of a thirst-quenching cocktail or two.

Andrew's Review
"This past Saturday, we rallied in force and brought our finely-honed mix of epicurean taste and carniverous fury to Black Iron Burger. It was a proud blend of long-time members and new faces (including renowned pianist Piotr “The Vandal” Anderszewski, who took a break from headlining Carnegie Hall to slam down a bacon-and-horseradish burger), and the ultimate consensus was that Black Iron is a solid, no-nonsense spot to get a casual burger and a beer in an easygoing East Village ambiance. This is hardly haute-cuisine - the beef is fresh but un-astounding, the toppings creative but not revolutionary (the exception being the disastrous Wasabi Burger, which sounds and looks intriguing, but tastes like something that “Landlocked Larry’s Sushi-o-Rama” ate and dropped). That said, there was universal praise for both the service (with a friendly and accommodating manager, who recognized our VIP-status) and the value. Landing an overall rating of 7.39, it falls squarely at #5 in our overall rankings. Would that I could say the same for myself. Sadly, the group rating of “Andrew as a person” continues to languish right around McDonald’s level, coming in at a mere 2.75 this session (even factoring in the boost from the 3.5 that my dad gave me…thanks pop). If you’ll excuse me, I’ll just get back to weeping under a table in the fetal position…."

The burger was an upscale version of classic thin fast food style patty. Overall taste was good, but it was a little oily. Loaded fries were the perfect balance of cheese and bacon bits. Would go back!

It's hard to judge Andrew as a person when he's not a person at all. He is a luminary, and inspirational figure amongst the commercially driven tat of today's society. A true leader. That said, today I'll give him 2/10. And that's generous.

The classic black iron burger is a very good "casual" burger. I know from confidential sources that Black Iron Burger engineers have been working very hard to maximize the awesomeness/price ratio on this burger. Glutonously eating it I can say their efforts have been rewarded beyond expectations. A solid 8 all around.

The space feels like a cheerful Irish pub. I felt comfortable, like I was at home.

A must in its price range!

As conducive of an ambiance black iron burger provides for some life changing livestock consumption, I was disappointed in the wasabi burger. The wasabi sauce was overpowering, not with the taste of wasabi, but just very mayonnaisey. The mushroom masked the texture of the burger and overall it was on the salty side. That being said, I finished it because I'm a fan of brioche buns and meat. In terms of Andrew, he was replaced by a stunt double halfway through who was more French and made awkward health conscious decisions for his order... Real Andrew did let me have a bite have of his black iron burger, which was better than mine and earned him a bite sized good rating :)

A no frills, but highly enjoyable burger. The horseradish adds a nice dimension that upped the harmoniousness. This isn't a transcendent burger by any means, but it's a solid go to. Great ambiance and really nice staff.
